Flânerie’s Guide To The Perfect Self-Care Ritual

person Posted By: Ailsa Watson list In: Selfcare

Discover flânerie's favourite rituals to practice self-love.

The beauty industry has historically driven unrealistic beauty standards. However, today, new beauty brands are emerging and redefining these standards, ensuring there is room for diversity, uniqueness and a focus on mood-boosting products. This is everything we at flânerie skincare support, with a focus on developing multi-sensory vegan beauty essentials we hope to empower everyone in their pursuit of wellbeing.

With a positive shift in the industry, skincare is transforming everyday beauty routines from ordinary practices to transformative rituals that helps us to slow down and take time for ourselves. In life, we can experience all levels of stress or anxiety. Taking a bath, meditating for 10 minutes, or slathering our favourite body moisturiser on (Our Firming Body Moisturiser, Ocean Swell!), can all help to combat these negative feelings. While we understand that these beauty rituals aren’t a cure for mental health, they can help with tranquillity, wellness, and self-love. All of which help to trigger positive emotions, helping to produce dopamine, serotonin, and endorphins.

Plan ahead:

If you know you’re going to start your self-care ritual, then clean your space. Our personal favourite, is fresh sheets. There’s nothing better, and trust us we guarantee you will thank us later.

Soft nourished skin against fresh clean sheets. Do we need to say anymore?

Draw yourself a bath:

Our favourite tip for creating the ultimate shower is adding eucalyptus to your bathroom. Breathe in the aromatics and it instantly relaxes you.

Start with a blank canvas. Cleanse your skin (all of it) before starting your beauty rituals. Personally, we are bath lovers, however, if you’re a shower person then let that rain fall!

For those bath lovers, here’s our step-by-step guide for drawing your bath.

1. Add your favourite bubble bath, oil or salts. We recommend either lavender or eucalyptus scents. They fill the room with the most calming scent.

2. There isn't a single, "ideal" temperature for bathwater—it comes down to personal preference. However, keep your bath temp less-than-scolding to protect your skin from irritation.

3. Set the mood! Light your favourite candle, prop your laptop up with the ultimate comfort film/tv show or pour a glass of wine.

4. Plan ahead. Layout your comfy clothes and beauty products for after your bath. We also love placing our towel and dressing gown on a radiator for ultimate comfort.

Nourish:

It’s now time to slather yourself in Firming Body Moisturiser. This ritual helps to ease feelings of stress and anxiety. We named the scent of this product “Ocean Swell”. When applying, evoke the scent of white sands and salty breezes with Ocean Swell. The seafresh and white musk aroma is inspired by the beauty of the ocean and the mystery it holds.

Do what makes you feel good:

While we could tell you that you should move your body, meditate, and journal, these aren’t rituals for everyone. They all have many positive aspects, however, we understand that self-care practices are unique and personal.

Breathe work, stretching, and getting outside are all things that can make a positive difference to your headspace, however, they can feel different every day. Something that may help you one morning, might not work the next. Take each day at a time, and move with your body. Do you want to chill of the couch and watch Gilmore Girls? Perfect! Or do you want to stretch your body and practice yoga? Perfect!

If meditation is your thing - we recommend the guided meditation app headspace.

If journaling is your thing -  we recommend writing down positive affirmations or simply take a moment to write down self-reflecting notes.

If yoga is your thing - we recommend setting the mood so you have a safe place to pratice. Light some candles, grab some pillows and listen to your body. On IG we are loving @klaramariayoga and @jodie.melissa
