There’s a misconception when it comes to mental health and we acknowledge that the industry has impacted and contributed to the growing mental health crisis. The beauty industry has historically driven unrealistic beauty standards. However, today, new beauty brands are emerging and redefining these standards, ensuring there is room for diversity, uniqueness, and a focus on mood-boosting products. This is everything we at flânerie skincare support, with a focus on developing multi-sensory vegan beauty essentials we hope to empower everyone in their pursuit of wellbeing. Take Three Deep Breaths - A simple yet effective way to ease your mind

Every April since 1992, Stress Awareness has been celebrated. Originally created in the United Kingdom it soon was adopted by other countries in the November of the same year. While stress isn’t a new problem that didn’t exist before now, it has certainly been amplified by environmental issues, cultural shifts and our growing personal day-to-day responsibilities. Stress Awareness Month draws attention to the causes, impacts and solutions that people can implement in their everyday lives. Recognition and education helps to break down the barriers created by society.

Here are some our top tips on how to de-stress:

Simple Act Of Kindness

“Performing acts of kindness led to better improvements in depression and anxiety”

This can be anything from buying yourself flowers, taking yourself out for a meal or paying yourself a compliment. Tell yourself you look good today, you would say it to a friend or colleague so why not yourself! A recent study claimed that performing acts of kindness led to better improvements in depression and anxiety than two of the main therapeutic techniques used. The paper, by PhD student David Cregg and Professor of Psychology Jennifer Cheavens, of Ohio State University was published in The Journal of Positive Psychology.

Get Outside In Nature

“Watching the world go by can ease your mind”

It’s proven that nature can lower our blood pressure and our sympathetic nervous system’s activity, thus improving our focus, serenity and creativity. Experiencing life’s simple pleasures such as watching the sunset or even just watching the world go by can ease your mind from stressful thoughts in everyday life.

Journaling

Journaling is something that may not be for everyone, but we’ve found the less strict you are with the practice and the more freedom you have the more beneficial it is. It is a great way of acknowledging your feelings and having a deeper understanding, and can even help with processing thoughts.

Spend time alone or be around loved ones

This is something that is a personal preference. When you may be feeling low, your ideal remedy can be to spend time with yourself. Wanting to spend time alone shouldn’t come with the feeling of “guilt”, if you need to cancel plans for your own wellbeing, we encourage you to not feel guilty. It can also really help to be around friends and loved ones when you’re needing a pick-me-up. Emma Seppala of the Stanford Center for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education, and author of the 2016 book “The Happiness Track,” wrote, “People who feel more connected to others have lower levels of anxiety and depression. She also said that “social connectedness generates a positive feedback loop of social, emotional and physical well-being.”

We hope this article was a useful reminder that self-care comes in many different forms, pertaining to health and wellness for mind, body and soul.
